What is Travel Green Wisconsin?

Iola Mills (cafe previously called The Millstone) was selected as a 'Travel Green Wisconsin' destination for its many demonstrated environmental practices. During the process of rebuilding the foundation, the 19th century water turbine that was used for mechanical power was rebuilt and reused to produce hydro electricity. The turbine not only produces all the electrical energy used by the restaurant, but the excess goes back into the power grid. Kitchen waste is composted and an onsite organic garden also provides produce to enhance the menu. Many salvaged and re-purposed architectural elements from other buildings have been used in the cafe interior.
